Life lately 1…

I wanted to share an update on my Los Angeles Marathon training for weeks 5-8 but realized that there really wasn’t much to share so instead here is an update on life.

Los Angeles Marathon training… is not going terribly well. Charlotte got a cold on Christmas Eve and then Josh and I both got sick. I was sick for two weeks and didn’t fully recover until after the new year. I didn’t end up running at all for over a week. When I did start running again, I did most of my runs on the treadmill and they were generally cut short since I was having a hard time waking up at 4AM consistently. Needless to say, there has been no speed work done in weeks. As for long runs, they have been all over the place. I skipped a race earlier in the month due to weather, ran 12 miles outside one weekend, skipped the Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon when Charlotte had a rough night, and got in a little over 8 miles this past weekend. At least on the runs I do make it outside for, the views are gorgeous. My weekly mileage is low for this far into the training cycle and my long run distance isn’t quite there yet either. At this point, I am hoping to make it through the rest of the training cycle and hopefully ramp up mileage in February. I’m not expecting much for the race except to have fun and finish uninjured. At this point, I am totally okay with this as mom-duty is my number one priority.

Nuun Ambassador… again! I am excited to report that I am a Nuun Ambassador again for 2017. I am a big fan of nuun and drink it almost daily so it is an honor to be on #teamnuun!

Fleet Feet Hoboken… I am also excited to share that I am spending some of my time working with Fleet Feet Sports in Hoboken. I am managing their marketing and events. I started part-time with the team in the beginning of the year and so far it has been great. I enjoy learning more about the running retail business, being a part of the Hoboken business community, and coming up with creative ways to engage with customers.

Year of the Rooster… this weekend we celebrated Chinese New Year. It is one of my favorite holidays! We enjoyed spending time with family and making new memories with Charlotte.

2017 Race Schedule (as of January)

Throwback to freezing after the 2014 Fred Lebow Manhattan Half!

I’m gearing up for my first race of 2017 this weekend at the Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon. Well, technically my first race of 2017 was supposed to be last weekend, but we know how that one went. The weather forecast for Sunday actually looks relatively warm considering the race in the last three years (2014, 2015 and 2016 recaps) were either freezing or cancelled due to snow. I hope I don’t jinx it though.

As I am thinking about this weekend’s run, I wanted to share my 2017 race schedule as it stands today. Most of the races for the first half of the year are set but I am currently signed up for 3 marathons within a 1.5 month period in the fall, what was I thinking? I’ll likely end up running the Berlin and NYC Marathons and then hold off on Chicago, however, we’ll see how the summer goes. I am also excited for my first trail run and Spartan race in May. As registration opens for some of the late spring and summer races, I’ll likely sign up for a couple more shorter distance races and hopefully my first stroller race!

2017 is about regaining my endurance, some relative speed, and finding a routine that works well for the family. I am excited to “just” run and even try some new events.
