Waking up early and more running shoes

You get so much done when you wake up an hour or two earlier than you normally would.

Mizuno Wave Rider 17

Mizuno Wave Rider 17

On National Running Day, I had to go into work earlier than usual and swimming after work, so if I was going to run, it was going to be before work. So in honor of the holiday, I had a 5 mile run on tap in my new Mizuno Wave Rider 17. I made it a little over a mile and my foot was throbbing. Sharp pains shooting up my right foot and then the pain moved to the left. Unfortunately, I had to turn around. I was truly disappointed and defeated. They’re going back to the store.

J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge

Thursday was the day of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge for Josh. P.S. I really miss running in the corporate challenge (I had run it 5 years in a row previously)! Our team practice was moved from Central Park to the east side due to the crowds for the race. I was a little bummed that I wouldn’t get the chance to run past Josh but did finish practice with enough time to run over to the park and catch him right after he finished!

I woke up early on Friday to fit in a barre class before work. I think I was chirpier during the day because I felt so accomplished that I didn’t have a workout hanging over my head.

Saturday was an awesome running day! I met up with the team for our Central Park scavenger hunt run. We had so much fun running around the Central Park area and stopping to take a ton of pictures. The scavenger hunt warrants a whole post to itself (coming soon). After practice, I made it to the running store to return the sneakers. I had my heart set on trying on the new Saucony Ride 7 (updated from the ones I had been running in). They were released a couple days ago but it turns out that the store wasn’t carrying them yet. So of course, I somehow ended up leaving the store though with two pairs of shoes, none of which were the ones I wanted originally. I ended up liking the New Balance Fresh Foam 980 and purchasing another pair of Saucony Ride 6 which were on sale.

my new kicks!

My Sunday morning adventure took me to a Planet Fitness with my brother. I can’t remember the last time I went to a big commercial gym. Between studio classes, running outside, swimming, and our apartment building gym I don’t really need a gym membership. I now understand why Josh thinks gyms are scary. It was literally rows and rows of treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. The perimeter was surrounded by weight machines. Even though the people in the gym weren’t intimidating, just being surrounded by so many machines felt a bit intense. I think the layout of a gym really makes a difference. I used to belong to a Club H and NYSC, both a little more welcoming in layout. Anyway, enough of my gym rant. The more important outcome aside from sibling bonding (please note sarcasm) was that I ran in the New Balance sneakers and I really like them so far!

Anyway, it’s been a successful week waking up earlier than usual. The way my schedule works out this upcoming week will require many morning workouts so I look forward to that chirpy feeling at work!

Do you like running at night or in the morning? What about running during a lunch break?
