Sunday Snaps #4

Congratulations to the Women’s USA World Cup team! What an incredible game and a great win for USA during the 4th of July weekend.

And on to less exciting news, here are some pictures from my long run on Saturday with the Athletes to End Alzheimer’s team. We ran from the Queensboro Bridge to Roosevelt Island and back and stopped for a quick photo shoot.

The photographer was a little unsure of how to use the phone camera. A group of us around mile 4.5 of the run with Blackwell Island Lighthouse.

Excited to take a picture with the Four Freedoms, as pronounced in President Roosevelt’s January 6, 1941 State of the Union speech.

And I’m sorry for the sweaty back marks. Mine was the biggest one. I’m a sweaty mess, sorry.

And to cap off my Saturday, it wouldn’t be a 4th of July BBQ if I didn’t chop wood. If you can’t tell, it was my first time and likely my last.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

What did you do to celebrate the 4th?

CLIF Organic Energy Food Giveaway!

Get ready for the most awesome giveaway ever – CLIF Organic Energy Food (#realfoodathlete)!

I’ve struggled big time with fueling on my latest marathons. I can’t seem to find one product that works. Running is the one time I try to ignore my attempt at avoiding processed foods and ingredients I do not recognize. Most fuel out there uses really big words in the ingredient list and I try to convince myself that it’s good for my running. You can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon CLIF Organic Energy Food at the New York Running Company right before the Brooklyn Half Marathon (my review original review of the product is here).

CLIF Organic Energy Food_SweetCLIF Organic Energy Food is crafted to meet the nutritional needs of endurance athletes with organic, real-food ingredients in a convenient, resealable pouch. It is inspired by the home recipes of Team CLIF Bar athletes, including world-class ultra runner Scott Jurek (P.S. I read his book Eat and Run and it’s very inspiring), each pouch is made from real food ingredients in delicious sweet or savory flavors.

Each recipe contains Certified USDA organic ingredients and is designed to capture the desire of athletes who want their sports nutrition to look and taste like the food they make at home (that’s totally me!). For example, the organic bananas in Banana Mango with Coconut provide both glucose and fructose for energy, while organic sunflower seed butter in Pizza Margherita delivers some fat and protein for longer-duration training and racing.

CLIF Organic Energy Food_SavoryCLIF Organic Energy Food sweet recipes are crafted for activities of one hour or more, while savory recipes also include small amounts of protein and fat beneficial for activities lasting two hours or longer. Team CLIF Bar athletes report that savory flavors help satisfy physiological cravings for electrolytes as well as emotional cravings for salty, comfort food and real food textures on-the-go.

Each recipe is gluten-free and does not contain partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or synthetic preservatives. All recipes source ingredients that are not genetically engineered.

Now for the giveaway! Two readers will win one of each flavor (for a total of 4) – Savory: Pizza Margherita and Sweet Potato with Sea Salt; Sweet: Banana Mango with Coconut and Banana Beet with Ginger.
