Friday Favorites #5

This week’s Friday Favorites will be all semi-running related (semi is a loose term).

IMG_2708Lunch variety. I ate french fries and a chicken philly cheesesteak from Plum on the Run on Thursday. Sometimes it’s nice to toss-up the routine, but an important reminder is not to eat too many french fries before a tough workout.

IMG_2710Bare arms. The weather was so nice I ran in a t-shirt and capris on Thursday evening. I felt so free, so bare, and so much faster.

IMG_2711Tempo Thursday. It was a busy Thursday for me, I guess. Julio, my running/training buddy and I have been consistently running tempo runs every Thursday for a couple of weeks now. Yesterday’s tempo workout which was my favorite was a warm-up + 3-miles at marathon goal pace and 3-miles at half-marathon goal pace + cool down. I ran primarily on feel and it was a good thing that correlated with the paces on my watch.

IMG_2712Exercise runway. This week I got lazy after my morning yoga routine to put away the mat. Aside from the fact that it doesn’t go with the decor and Josh thinks it’s in the way, I love having my yoga mat where it is. I watch TV from the floor now while foam rolling and just randomly sit around stretching. (See Josh, you’ll see having the yoga mat permanently out will be better for my running.)

Fun running reads. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see a lot of the articles I find interesting (but then maybe I would give away my blog posts?!?). My favorite ones from the week are – 4 Ways to Build Mental Toughness, 35 Things You Didn’t Know About the London Marathon, The World’s Best Half Marathons, 52 Reasons to Run a Marathon, and The World’s 25 Best Marathons.

The Active Times Network – I’m excited to be a part of The Active Times blogger community. One day, my activity will span more than just running! In the meantime, check their Friday Feature on me.

Happy Passover/Easter/Holiday/Spring weekend to all! I am excited for my weekend – the last long run before tapering (with 10K race thrown in the middle) and quality time with friends and family.

What are your weekend and running plans?

Friday Favorites #4

It’s that time of week again – Friday, woohoo! Well, not quite for me, I have another work day tomorrow, so my shortened weekend doesn’t start until Sunday. Regardless, the feeling of a Friday night still feels great.

And here are my favorites from the week…

As seen on my Instagram: https://instagram.com/cindy_runs/

The Taco Truck – is on the Stevens campus every Tuesday now that the weather is warmer. That means that the one day a week I can splurge is Tuesday. I love #tacotuesday(s)!

Yes, I do yoga in my pajamas.

Brett Larkin Yoga – this should actually count as my #2 and #3 favorite things for the week. I heard about Brett Larkin from Greatist on Twitter and decided to watch her Beginner Bedtime Yoga Sequence. I liked what I watching and decided to try it that evening before bed. I’m not sure if it helped me sleep (I usually have no problem falling asleep) but I was hooked. I never thought I would say that about yoga – as most who know me, know that I have an on/off relationship with yoga. About a year ago, I loved hot yoga, that is until I decided I didn’t really like it and sweating like a dog in a yoga class wasn’t terribly fun. After discovering the bedtime sequence, I found the Beginner Morning Yoga Sequence. Every morning so far this week, I’ve been following the morning yoga session, and every night except for 2, I’ve been following the bedtime video. I think what I really like about these sequences is that they are short. It doesn’t take much effort or planning for me to spend 10-15 minutes on yoga in the morning or evenings. Also, I feel more relaxed during the days after the morning sequence. Things that normally would make me very frustrated, I’ve actually been more relaxed about. That’s not to say I’m a relaxed person, it’s just that I am less tense.

London Marathon is in 29 days! – I can’t believe the marathon is less than a month away. Time is really flying. That also means that we leave for our trip in 25 days. I need a vacation – one away from work and one away from running (after the marathon that is).

Jealous of my vest?!?

Jealous of my vest?!?

My AgeUK singlet – or as the British call it, my vest came this week in the mail. While I feel like I am cheating on the Alzheimer’s Association a little when I wear this new singlet, I am proud to be supporting such a great organization. Mother Nature, I’m asking for warmer weather in the NYC-area so I can wear it on a test long run before the race!

Finally registered!

Finally registered!

RRCA Coaching Certification – For the last 3 years, I’ve wanted to sign up for the certification course when it is in NYC. However, every time I see the registration is open, I hesitate to look on the calendar or wait until I get home from work to sign up, then the class is full. Yesterday, I saw the email and immediately saw that the NYC class registration opened and I immediately signed up. I didn’t think twice about it and hopefully it works out for scheduling but I knew I had to pull the trigger. I’m excited I to have a spot for the class in July (ha, yes it’s 4 months away but at least that gives me time to get my First Aid and CPR certification). I’d love to be able to share my love for running with others.

And with that, happy weekend everyone!

How many miles do you have planned? – I have an easy run tomorrow (maybe 6?) and an 18-mile long run on Sunday.

Share with me your exciting Saturday plans so I can live vicariously through you when I am up super early to head into work.
